What Fossils can you find at Covehthe?

(Upper Shell Bed) - 2003

molluscs can be collected from the shell beds at Covehithe, exposed at the base of the cliff. One shell dominates the bed, Macoma calcarea. Occasionally this has a small round hole in the shell as in the photo above. This is caused by predictors eating the animal inside. The common predictors are Gastropods which can also be found in the shell beds.

(Shells from the Red Bed) - 2004

Below the upper shell bed and below a further 3 metres of clay, is another sandy shell bed (Lower Shell Bed) and below this a hard Red Bed. This bed contains molluscs that are much better preserved than the upper and lower shell bed and many more different species including the large artica shells.

(Derived Fossils from the Glacial Beds) - 2003

Echinoid's and Sponges can commonly be found in the Glacial Pebble Beds, brought down from the ice age. Belemnites have also been found
